Food security is
available of food dan ability of someone or people to access it. Houses be called has food
security if the family don’t get hunger. Food security is size of elasticity
against disorder in the future or absence of supply important food due to
various factors as drought, disorder distribution, a gas shortage, economic
instability, war, etc.
World health
organization (WHO) has been defining the three main components for food
security, that is the availability of food, access to food, and utilization of
food. The availability of food is the ability to feel a n umber of food enough to
basic needs.
Food access is the
ability to have resources, economically or physically, to get nutritious food.
Food utilization is the ability to utilize the groceries correctly and
appropriately proportioned. Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) has added
fourth component, which is stability of those three components in long period
time.
The policy of a country
can influence public access to food stuffs, as happened in India. The
government approved the ambitious plans for India to give subsidies for
two-thirds of the country's population. This Bill propose food security to make
the food as a right of citizens and will provide five pounds worth of cheap
foodstuffs per month for 800 million poor population India.
UNICEF data says that
every two second there is one child in death because of unable to access food.
Nowday let’s see the condition happen in the world, people are facing food
scarcity and hunger like what happen in Zimbabwe, Africa. Food distribution is
not fair and suitable which is hard trouble to solve.
Why does food scarcity
become urgent? If we deeply analyst on natural aspect that people are highly
dependent on natural situation namely climate, weather, seasons, water, soil
quality, etc. In natural aspect, there are much problems happen. First, let’s
talk about climate. The world is facing climate slow changing, eventhought it’s
slowly changing, Climate change also influences people’s farm and field
immediately. It’s getting more difficult to predict the season and climate.
Therefore the probability of failed of farming will be significantly higher
than previous decade. Because we can not be sure when to plant and when to
harvest. Therefore it will be decrease productivity of our farm and food
supply.
Second, it’s soil
quality. Every country, including Indonesia, do significant development in some
sectors. It will impact to the number of buildings, offices, house, mall, etc.
The incerasing number of bulding can eat free soil area that degradation of
soil quality occurs. In addition quality of soil is determining by the top
soil. Top soil is a part of soil in the surface of earth, about 50 cm from the
surface of earth. Because of biological reason, every season use soil to plant
something. The quality and fertility will be deminished. That is the reason why
people use fertilizer. If using of ferlitizer reachs high number, it will
damage our earth, especially the soil. So people need a plant that is not
taking too much of soil quality but it still provides good result.
Third, we are disscuss
about water. The ability of having water resource is important. In many part of
the world, water is source of conflict and war, because supply is not
sufficient where human’s growth exponentialy that makes population exploding.
Nowdays total people of the world is more than 7 billions. Those 7 billions
need food and water. Even in this scarcity situation some of water are unusable
because of below spesification for farming and pollution. Therefore the use of
water should be efficient.
Those three explanation
about the fact today should wake us up that people need solution on farming
systems. Finally Genetic Modification Organism (GMO) is a solution for the food
scarcity problem. Advance researchs of food genetic modification of GMO need to
be noticed. The supply of land for farming af agriculture is getting smaller
each day with the deminishing supply of farming land and soil quality. People
still have to provide a much more productivity of our systems.
Imagine this, the
challange is getting more difficult but the supply of soil is decrease. So we
need sophisticated solution and the solution for this is GMO. Why is it GMO?
First, GMO is less water needed. The needed water of GMO is immensely less than
organic because GMO is product of human mind. Organic is back to nature, but sometimes back to
nature is radicalism when you can make sure that GMO is safe. Simple
analogical, if you want to go to school, there are two choice, by riding
bicycle and by walking. Both of the are health, safe, and going green. But by
riding bicycle is more efficient, not tired, and faster. That analogical does
happen to GMO and organic food, because GMO is more efficient.
Second,
GMO is less sterilization needed because it’s lasting gen from plant desease
and pest. It’s also more resist and endurance than organic. GMO can protect the
plant in their growing because of resist gen from many kind of plant desease or
pest. And finally leader of the world should subsidy and support in research of
genetic modification organism (GMO) on facing global food scarcity.
